Hair Shedding

It is useful to understand your natural hair shedding process. When using hair extensions your hair will shed in just the same way as it does when not using hair extensions, there is an acceptable amount of hair shedding which generally equates to one quarter to one third of the hair originally used to apply each professional hair extension. This hair will stay in the extension but shed from your scalp. If a client is concerned and feels her hair is shedding above the normal range, then she should consult Lush Lox as soon as possible.

This is extremely unlikely to ever happen. I use the safest bonding method and I'm expertly trained in applying extensions, even to very fine hair. However I will discuss this briefly in the consultation appointment to make clients aware of what is normal and abnormal.

Maintaining your new Hair Extensions

  1. To maintain your extensions in the best possible condition, it is important that youfollow the advised procedures. Shampooing and conditioning your hair at least twice a week with the recommended products and advice
  2. When washing your hair, always use a shower hose. Do not turn your head upside down as this may cause tangling
  3. Apply clarifying shampoo or any shampoo containing no oils or conditioner and massage the scalp but not the extensions working downwards through to the ends. Rinse and repeat
  4. Apply conditioner avoiding contact with the bonds. Rinse, pat hair down with a towel to remove excess water - Do not wrap hair in a towel
  5. Apply products such as serum or mouse, etc., again, avoiding contact with the bonds. Brush through hair using a bristle brush, or wide tooth comb avoiding bonds
  6. Dry hair off with a blow-dryer making sure bonds are thoroughly dry and hard. Do not put excessive heat directly on to the bonds as this may soften and loosen them. Use a cool to medium heat at all times
  7. Finish off styling hair as desired

Sleeping - gently plait the hair or tie loosely in a soft band to prevent tangling. Never sleep on wet hair, always make sure hair is completely dry before going to bed.

General wear - do not apply unnecessary tension to the bond and root areas by tying ponytails too tight.

Keep your hair clean- when dirt and sweat build up, hair can tangle and matte together and can also cause the bonds to soften. Wash your hair after exercise, swimming etc. If possible, wear a cap when swimming or try to keep your hair out of the water. It is recommended to wear your hair up or in a ponytail when you swim or exercise.

Please note, excessive pulling or picking of extensions may result in extensions coming out and your own hair breaking off.

Hair Safety

It is very important that a thorough consultation is carried out prior to having hair extensions fitted. During the consultation key points about maintenance and different types of extensions will be explained.

I use a keratin bonding material for applying our pre-bonded hair extensions which is both kind and durable. Both application and the removal stage will be carried out carefully to ensure no damage is done to the natural hair.

I am confident in the way I fit hair extensions and a full hair safety check will be carried at consultation process to ensure clients only with natural healthy hair are used to fit extensions on.
